The country is named after Mount Kenya, the highest mountain in Kenya and the second-highest in Africa, after Kilimanjaro. Moving from east to west, the terrain ranges from white beaches of the Indian Ocean to the mile-high plateau of Nairobi, climbing higher still to the snow-capped summit of Mount Kenya, dropping across the Great Rift Valley to Lake Victoria.
